A ubiquitous spec home on the edge of a Chesapeake neighborhood has been transformed into a harmonious composition with connection to outside views. Formerly partitioned spaces were opened up to create light and flow, introducing a hierarchy of scale. The use of genuine reclaimed materials, such as timber columns from the old Norfolk Boat House, create new interest. With a fine level of detailing, including custom fabrication of screen walls, hardware, even furniture, the home becomes a composition of parts. The design includes niches for art display, and a barrel-vaulted ceiling in the music room.
