The challenge of shoring up a sinking foundation in this 1920’s home in a historic Norfolk neighborhood presented an opportunity to create an open, contemporary interior on the first level. When owners invested in the property, they remember “everything running to the center of the house.” In the process of leveling the foundation, some walls split apart revealing the potential to knock them down completely. The house received all new supportive piers, and a new spine from foundation to attic. Windows, the roof and exterior shingles were replaced to original specifications. Inside, an open floor plan joins kitchen and gathering space into a bright, modern environment. An upstairs renovation is on the horizon.
