Last week was the JT Walk & Beach Party kick-off event at the Hilton Virginia Beach Oceanfront. The first renderings of the Welcome Center were presented to an invigorated and excited crowd.

Dutch Dialogues VA: Life at Sea Level
WPA was excited to partner with the City of Norfolk and City of Hampton to assist in hosting the Dutch Dialogues VA: Life at Sea Level. People living in the Netherlands are surrounded by water and have suffered through flooding for centuries. Due to this experience they realized that the answer was not to build higher barriers, but to figure out how to live more naturally with water. The “Dutch Dialogues” workshops bring together Dutch engineers, urban designers, landscape architects, city planners and soils/hydrology experts and local counterparts to explore creative and innovative solutions to the challenges inherent in living in a coastal city.
319 Bacon
We are happy to report that the proposed façade for a great new restaurant that we’re designing for 319 Granby Street has been issued its Certificate of Appropriateness by Norfolk’s Architectural Review Board. 319 Bacon will feature delicious bacon dishes and craft beers that we can’t wait to enjoy while sitting in the covered outdoor patio just off the sidewalk. It has been a delight working with a team of clients who have a distinct vision for the best kind of customer experience, and we know this will be a highlight to the Downtown Norfolk and regional dining scene.
Grow Dat Youth Farm
WPA is proud to promote a public interest design project by our very own Jeremy Maloney. Recently it was featured on Architecture Served and Inspiration Is which showcase work from leading creatives on Behance. The Grow Dat Youth Farm was the result of the Social Entrepreneurship Initiative at Tulane University with the design and construction lead by the Tulane City Center. A team of Tulane Architecture students worked collaboratively on the 4 acre site plan, landscape architecture, and the architecture that supports the Grow Dat’s agricultural and educational programming.
Grow Dat Youth Farm is located in New Orleans’ City Park. Their mission is to nurture a diverse group of young leaders through the meaningful work of growing food. They work collaboratively to produce healthy food for the local residents and to inspire youth and adults to create personal, social, and environmental change in their own communities.
Grand Central Eatery Complete!
We’ve enjoyed this collaboration for the completion of Grand Central Eatery with MK Catering, CJW Contractors, and staff at The Community College of Baltimore County’s Owings Mills campus, and now looking forward to grabbing a cup of coffee and delicious treat.
NSU Wayfinding
WPA has worked with NSU stakeholders and our partners at SWAY and Acorn Sign Graphics to design a new sign family to kick off the Norfolk State University Wayfinding Program. The goals of the Wayfinding Program are to make the University more welcoming, accessible and navigable, to provide information clearly and consistently, to clean up existing sign clutter, and to enhance the appearance of the campus. It will reinforce the NSU Master Plan’s goals of promoting a healthy residential college campus with a focus on the pedestrian experience.
