Downtown Norfolk Pilot Parklet Project

Street View_W

WPA teamed up with Blueridge General Contractors for a fun design-build project for the Downtown Norfolk Council. The DNC worked with the City of Norfolk to write guidelines for a pilot parklet program. The WPA/Blueridge Parklet will be built off-site and installed in front of MacArthur square. Once streetscape improvements have been completed for the new Slover Library, the Parklet will move up the street and park in front of 3 Way Café and the WPA studio, providing additional outdoor seating for anyone to use.

St. Gregory the Great Catholic School

St Gregory Work is progressing on the construction of WPA’s new entry and administrative office suite addition to St. Gregory the Great Catholic School in Virginia Beach. The new entrance gives the Administration better visual control over the school entrance for increased safety, and provides a large covered canopy to shade and protect the students as they wait for pick-up.  This Design-Build effort is led by R.D. Lambert & Son.

Smithfield Foods Parking Structure

Birdseye 1
Birdseye 1

WPA was hired by Smithfield Foods to study several options for expanding their current parking for the Corporate Campus. Smithfield Foods would like to give back to the Town by creating a wetlands boardwalk and nature trail that forms a connection from the existing docks at the Smithfield Corporate building up to Church Street. The boardwalk would be used as a teaching tool, educating visitors on the plant and animal life that exists in the wetlands, and enjoyed during the 4th of July and other holidays that bring the Smithfield community together on the water. WPA is currently working with the Town of Smithfield and Isle of Wight County, the Army Corps of Engineers, the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality, and the Department of Historic Resources to analyze all of the available options. Our consultants are: WPL (Surveying, Civil, and Landscape) WPL, Map Environmental (Environmental issues and agency submittals) Map Environmental, GET Solutions (Geotechnical Engineering) GET. Project is temporarily on hold until Smithfield Food merger is finalized.
