WPA emerged from a year and a half of pandemic-induced “work-from-home” regimen into a bright new office within the creative campus of Assembly at 400 Granby Street in Downtown Norfolk. WPA designed the renovation of the entire building, now home to a variety of tenants.
The firm’s 5,400 sf space on the third floor reflects its core values of collaboration, community focus, transparency, and process. The contemporary build-out is open, informal, comfortable, and adaptable, featuring sit-to-stand workstations, long communal tables, multiple surfaces for displaying process sketches, flexible furnishings, a lounge, an open kitchen, a reception area, and a materials library. Every detail, including custom-designed coat racks, is carefully considered.
The Resource Gallery provides a “blank canvas”-inspired space with the functionality of a material and maker lab. Here, the design team tests concepts, studies materials, and brings projects to life. Three quiet rooms flank this space to support wellness, virtual meetings, heads-down work, and other work-life balance needs.
Employees have the option to continue working from home several days a week while gathering in the new office for collaboration and group work.
