WPA took a minimalist approach to renovate this home in accordance with the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation. WPA collaborated with Commonwealth Preservation Group to create existing conditions plans and photographic documentation to meet the requirements of the Virginia Department of Historic Resources.
The design strategy respects the home’s original circulation paths and fenestration, making only two modifications to existing openings. In the kitchen, dropped beams and inlays in the floor pattern mark the location of former historic walls.
The renovation included a complete overhaul of the kitchen and butler’s pantry, as well as updates to the primary bedroom, bathrooms, attic access, and attic space.
