Work Program Architects used a minimalist approach to renovate this home to meet the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation. WPA worked with Commonwealth Preservation Group to create existing conditions plans and photos to meet the requirement of the Virginia Department of Historic Resources. The design strategy respects the original circulation paths and fenestration, only making changes to two openings within the residence. In the kitchen, dropped beams and inlays in the floor pattern denote the former historic walls. Work included complete renovations to the existing kitchen and butler’s pantry, master bedroom, bathrooms, attic access, and attic space.
