Norfolk State University sought a downtown presence to better connect students, faculty, and alumni with the broader business community. In partnership with the City of Norfolk, the NSU Research and Innovation Foundation relocated to the heart of the business district on Main Street.
Designed for flexibility and choice, the space features small and large conference areas that can be reconfigured in multiple ways. It also includes individual breakout spaces, collaborative work areas, informal seating and lounge areas, a catering kitchen/break room, and four touchdown office spaces. With no formally defined end-user, the space can adapt to a variety of functions.
WPA incorporated demountable glass partitions to bring natural light into the rear of the space, FilzFelt movable hanging panels to define the conference and training areas without committing to a permanent layout, and advanced, intuitive technology to support collaborative group work and presentations.
