Norfolk State University
1,513 square feet
Green building takes on a whole new meaning with this new 1,513 square foot aluminum and glass greenhouse at Norfolk State University. The aluminum and glass structure sits on a concrete and brick veneer knee-wall. The new greenhouse replaces one that formerly sat on top of the Woods Science building. The new facility, located on a path between Woods Science and the Dick Price Stadium, engages the broader campus in what transpires there. The building is used for the cultivation of blue/green algae, crop plants and microorganisms, hydroponics, and tree seedlings. Students will be able to work on a variety of projects, including topics related to food sources and growing plants to beautify campus. The scope of work also included a critical generator for backup power, and all associated mechanical, electrical, and plumbing work necessary to make connections from the site to the greenhouse equipment.
