WPA is excited to be working on another new restaurant on Granby Street. Bonchon will be moving into 273 Granby Street and opening up the façade to the street with a new NanaWall system.

Oozlefinch Craft Brewery
WPA is thrilled to partner with For the People Projects on Oozlefinch Craft Brewery in Hampton, VA. The project is located at Fort Monroe and is BCOM project. Jen Stringer (longtime friend and collaborator) is the Lead Designer and Owner of For the People Projects. WPA is the Architect of Record, assisting Jen with her work as Lead Designer and Owner’s Representative. Oozlefinch Craft Brewery honors the legend of the “Oozlefinch,” a featherless bird that flies backward at supersonic speeds. Under the influence of alcohol, Captain H.M. Merriam first sighted the Oozlefinch outside the officer’s club at Fort Monroe. Over time, reports of Oozlefinch sightings became more common, sketches were made, and a statue of the Oozlefinch was erected on Fort Monroe.
Camp Grom Progresses
Work Program Architects continues to be proud and honored to be a part of JT’s Camp Grom team helping to bring this camp to life. Last week was the JT Walk & Beach Party kick-off event at the Hilton Virginia Beach Oceanfront. The first renderings of the Welcome Center were presented to an invigorated and excited crowd.
319 Bacon
We are happy to report that the proposed façade for a great new restaurant that we’re designing for 319 Granby Street has been issued its Certificate of Appropriateness by Norfolk’s Architectural Review Board. 319 Bacon will feature delicious bacon dishes and craft beers that we can’t wait to enjoy while sitting in the covered outdoor patio just off the sidewalk. It has been a delight working with a team of clients who have a distinct vision for the best kind of customer experience, and we know this will be a highlight to the Downtown Norfolk and regional dining scene.
Grand Central Eatery Update
Almost complete!
We’ve enjoyed this collaboration with MK Catering, CJW Contractors, and staff at The Community College of Baltimore County’s Owings Mills campus, and can’t wait to grab a coffee and some delicious treats once it opens.
Pinecrest
WPA was selected by Pinecrest School to design a new Lower School in Annandale, Virginia to replace an existing school building. After touring the campus and meeting with teachers, parents, students, administrators, and the school’s board of directors, WPA worked with a group of Pinecrest stakeholders to design a facility that will fit the unique needs of the Pinecrest community; a community that emphasizes family involvement in education in an atmosphere that strives to support each student academically, socially, and emotionally.
Smithfield Retreat
WPA was hired to work with a local family to design a retreat house on the James River in Smithfield, Virginia. The Clients came to us with an idea for a modern barn and a desire for a place where family and friends could gather, read books, play games, and get away from the hustle and bustle of the work-week. The above drawings reflect our first-pass at a schematic design for a house that invites guests to gather in one open room, relax in front of the fire, and hang out on a bluff above the James River.
Dominion Enterprises Device Lab
Dominion Enterprises hired WPA to conduct a one-day charrette to help design a new Device Lab—a place where developers, help desk, audio/visual, creative, and administrative staff could come together to work on testing and development of mobile apps.
