WPA was hired by Smithfield Foods to study several options for expanding their current parking for the Corporate Campus. Smithfield Foods would like to give back to the Town by creating a wetlands boardwalk and nature trail that forms a connection from the existing docks at the Smithfield Corporate building up to Church Street. The boardwalk would be used as a teaching tool, educating visitors on the plant and animal life that exists in the wetlands, and enjoyed during the 4th of July and other holidays that bring the Smithfield community together on the water. WPA is currently working with the Town of Smithfield and Isle of Wight County, the Army Corps of Engineers, the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality, and the Department of Historic Resources to analyze all of the available options. Our consultants are: WPL (Surveying, Civil, and Landscape) WPL, Map Environmental (Environmental issues and agency submittals) Map Environmental, GET Solutions (Geotechnical Engineering) GET. Project is temporarily on hold until Smithfield Food merger is finalized.
Duck Donuts is finally open on Virginia Beach Boulevard, Virginia Beach. Approximately 3,000 square feet, the single-story, two-suite building houses the first Virginia franchise of the wildly popular Duck Donuts. The building features a drive thru, large glass storefronts, and a contemporary exterior clad in brick and fiber cement panels. WPA with Homeland Construction collaborated with GET Solutions , McPherson Design Group and WPL in this exciting design-build project. Come see the new building and enjoy some delicious donuts.
Atlanta’s Oglethorpe University approached WPA to lead the predesign efforts for the renovation and consolidation of the Students Services (Financial Aid, Business Office, Bursar, and Registrar) into a one-stop-shop to welcome parents and students into Lupton Hall. Built in 1920, Lupton Hall and its carillon bells are situated at the heart of the Oglethorpe campus.
Construction is nearing completion for this 4,700 SF warehouse renovation in the Berkley area of Norfolk. WPA has been working hand-in-hand with PG Harris and Space Design Group to design the renovation to this old pickle plant from the late 1800’s.
Construction is moving at full speed at the duplex we’re working on with GreenBuildIt on Jefferson Blvd. in Virginia Beach. Framing by Joe Rivera and his team from Right Angle Works is looking great and is now up to the roof line, with stairs going in and the finish details being worked out.
Framing is complete and windows have been installed at this long, skinny house on the Hague. The views from the turret are incredible, and we have just begun working on stone shop drawing review. Can’t wait for the masonry to start!
