WPA is proud to continue to work with our Clients in Western Branch on small renovations and interventions in their home. This new covered entry sets the stage for procession into the recently renovated entry foyer, music room, living room, dining room and kitchen. Custom glass and steel elements match profiles used on the interior of the house, and solid wood columns are reminiscent of heavy timber columns on the interior, recycled from the now demolished Norfolk Boat House concert venue.
WPA teamed up with Blueridge General Contractors for a fun design-build project for the Downtown Norfolk Council. The DNC worked with the City of Norfolk to write guidelines for a pilot parklet program. The WPA/Blueridge Parklet will be built off-site and installed in front of MacArthur square. Once streetscape improvements have been completed for the new Slover Library, the Parklet will move up the street and park in front of 3 Way Café and the WPA studio, providing additional outdoor seating for anyone to use.
Work is progressing on the construction of WPA’s new entry and administrative office suite addition to St. Gregory the Great Catholic School in Virginia Beach. The new entrance gives the Administration better visual control over the school entrance for increased safety, and provides a large covered canopy to shade and protect the students as they wait for pick-up. This Design-Build effort is led by R.D. Lambert & Son.
WPA was approached by MK Catering to help interpret their vision for the new Grand Central Eatery at The Community College of Baltimore County’s Extension Center in Owings Mills, MD. Concept design renderings were approved and we are now working with a contractor and team to finalize plans for build-out.
Inspired by the beauty of Grey’s Creek and surrounding Surry County, WPA submitted a proposal for a new environmental center, restaurant, and marina. The design takes advantage of the site’s steep topography and arc-shaped ridge to provide a sweeping unobstructed view of the wetlands and waterway.
WPA was hired by Smithfield Foods to study several options for expanding their current parking for the Corporate Campus. Smithfield Foods would like to give back to the Town by creating a wetlands boardwalk and nature trail that forms a connection from the existing docks at the Smithfield Corporate building up to Church Street. The boardwalk would be used as a teaching tool, educating visitors on the plant and animal life that exists in the wetlands, and enjoyed during the 4th of July and other holidays that bring the Smithfield community together on the water. WPA is currently working with the Town of Smithfield and Isle of Wight County, the Army Corps of Engineers, the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality, and the Department of Historic Resources to analyze all of the available options. Our consultants are: WPL (Surveying, Civil, and Landscape) WPL, Map Environmental (Environmental issues and agency submittals) Map Environmental, GET Solutions (Geotechnical Engineering) GET. Project is temporarily on hold until Smithfield Food merger is finalized.
WPA is teamed with Within Interior Design on the renovation of the interior of Chartway Federal Credit Union’s new headquarters. W.M. Jordan has been selected as the General Contractor, and work has begun on the 4th floor executive suite.
Schematic Design is underway for the renovation of an existing 1932 garage structure for a house in Old Beach at the North End. Currently only housing the family’s surfboards and tools, the expansion will provide a fun play space for the children, and create a quiet place to tuck away and read a book.
Construction is moving at full speed at the duplex we’re working on with GreenBuildIt on Jefferson Blvd. in Virginia Beach. Framing by Joe Rivera and his team from Right Angle Works is looking great and is now up to the roof line, with stairs going in and the finish details being worked out.
